Jamb holds once in a year and the Next Jamb is around the Corner. Thinking about how many persons fail Jamb yearly, Jamb result issues and People who may be busy at work during the normal Jamb registration period, you may want to suggest that Jamb should conduct UTME Twice a year.
For example, Waec had to divide GCE into First Series and Second Series to ensure that everyone is able to sit for the exam irrespective of financial status and work schedule. This is simply because the Waec result doesn’t expire and can’t be used anytime.
I don’t like people wasting one full year at home because they failed Jamb or couldn’t sit for the exam due to health, financial and emotional issues.
However, Jamb won’t still be able to conduct examination Twice a year due to the following top reasons:
- Universities run one calendar in a year
- The carrying capacity of Schools in Nigeria is low
- Post UTME will have to be twice
- Schools will have to run many calendars
- Too many students and NYSC issue
Jamb taken two times per year may not be able to work for students in Nigeria. An academic session in Nigerian Universities and Polytechnics is around 8 months, with 4 months left in a year. Schools won’t be able to do more in the remaining four months
With more universities created, the number of students admitted per session will still remain constant according to NUC. Unless we look at other learning options for them.
If Jamb holds twice a year, then post UTME will have to be cancelled or held twice a year which is a big burden to schools in terms of manpower, resources usage and finance.
Jamb holding twice a year will simply imply that schools must run simultaneous academic calendar which is not possible for now.
Finally, with more students gaining admission, the number of corpers will multiply and this will stress NYSC and besides, there are limited places of assignment for corpers.
Jamb won’t hold twice a year, because it can hold twice a year. Your best bet is to make sure you gain admission with the current Jamb.
