The Commandant, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), AVM SL Rabe, has stated that candidates are admitted into AFIT by merit. He disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the Sarkin Gandun Zazzau, Alhaji Samaila Musa Danarewa.
According to him, for any candidate to be admitted into AFIT, he or she must have an aggregate score of 50 and above from a combination of the candidate’s post-University Tertiary Matriculation Examination score and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Examination score. He disclosed that bringing down the admission standard beyond an average performance for any candidate will be a disservice to the candidate and the nation.
AVM Rabe stated that the Institute had already made provisions for students who could not meet up with the minimum standards of the School by offering admission to them in the School of Basic and Remedial Studies (SBRS) as well as the IJMB programme. He therefore enjoined parents whose wards were unable to score the minimum grade to enroll them for the SBRS or IJMB programmes. Earlier, the Sarkin Gandun Zazzau had commended the Commandant for the transformation of the School within the short period he assumed office as the 13th Commandant.
He urged the Commandant to look into ways he could support the local community and to extend opportunities to them. He disclosed that there were eligible Nigerians from the local communities who were qualified to lecture in the Institute, adding that such people could be encouraged whenever there were such openings for employment.
